What a cleansing!
Saturday 9th, Brasserie Beaubien was the host for Cleanse, Evergreen, and Guest Room Status. A show where influences came from all over the place, seemingly from radio punk rock to grunge to some good old Emo\Simple Plan type of Rock.
ON a fucking rainy night, were Terror and Hubrus seemed to reign over MOntreal, I darted off for an hour walk towards brasserie beaubien, where Evergreen would give one hell of a set. At my arrival, I was drenched but luckily I'd discovered my coat was rainproof and so I'd avoided freezing like hell. Arrived there, I met the buddies, and I peak around, trying to guess who's in cleanse and Guest room status. As i talk with Matteo singer and legendary guitarist for Evergreen, I learn that the money they are raising for this show will go to their friend conor, who's got cancer and is currently following treatments with a certain degree of positivism. I thought to myself wow, these guys are already not making much, mostly even spending more than what they are earning to entertain us rythm fiend and here they are giving it to help their friend power through such times. Goes to show how great people can still be in modern times. Now back to showbusiness. I spy around and get to meet alejandro the guitarist of Gitni, a band that'S into heavy music and are set to play a show the 25th of march with bad objection . we exchange upon funny stories and our love of music and other tales while we wait for the show.
Finally, I perceive four young whippersnappers embarking on stage,
strapping up their instruments and they blast off some good hard rock tending towards punk, which ressembled the album dead air from Heatmiser. They surely have vitality and the singer is on fire spitting a la blink-182esque lyrics about their odd times where they got screwd three million or three thousand dong which is either one hundred sixty four dollars or sixteen dollars and forty cents. you'll have to go see them in show to know which it is. Their songs are catchy, injected with a desire to move the crowd and get them stomping uncontrollably. I urge you guys to go see them live, although No many songs aren't know yet due to this show being their first on the island, their heaviness on instruments and catchy singing will surely bring you and your friends to twilight as they did with us on the ninth' while outside hell poured. To see a peak of their incredible performance head out on their INSTAGRAM.Lastly was Guest Room Status, who are they? Well they come from either ottawa or toronto and they all met through journalism, where they discovered not only did they attend the same program, somehow magically they all like bands such as modern baseball and the hotelier. not only that, they also had the ability to play instruments together without overshadowing each other or hating each other. SO they started playing loud music inspired by math-rock, emo, and hard rock palettes. one thing I can guarantee you is their lyrics are catchy. FUnnily on my way to the show I was listening to welcome to the black parade by my chemical romance. their music ressembles strangely enough, the energy the intensity and their sing-a-long style. on stage, their presence is great, they introduced themselves very well and gave us all a rough idea of how grateful they were to be allowed to perform in montreal. many people seem to be waiting for this moment as fans were stumping, dancing, hugging and smiling as the band thrashed along punk emo songs reminding me of my high school years listening to simple plan. they rocked the cabash and truly seemed to have a dynamism onstage and a great confidence in each other and their instruments. They seemed to be a band that would have no problem to fill up big venues with their radio friendly music. Their ep's such as like the weather and Guest Room Status are fidels studio impressions of the band as I can confirm that live, they rock as hard if not harder and the riffs are as catchy on stage than in the headphones. truly I salute them for bringing back the nostalgia of the 2000's edgy emo kid that sank down my memories as time waged on.
