May 25 at Barlfy, The Snatchers, Gitni and Sigil Grove

I'd dragged my feets up to Lachine district under the red hot sun listening to high class proper muppet jazz and gizzmo sucked out of mans to be, all billed under a festival call La Dame Festive. Friends and I filled our ears and tummies along the canal with delicacies overpriced and spent the end of the afternoon playing haki-sac. By the time six o'clock came by, I was in a metro falling asleep as the lights and sounds sped around me in all directions, the destination was a show at Barfly publicized by vicious kids who've got nothing more to do than grind their feets and teeths on cheap knicks and good music. The bands featured on this bill were the Snatchers, Gitni and the one and only Sigil Grove. Upon arrival after fighting through endless dreams during my metro rides, I skated to the venue and felt a surge of energy as wind and the citie's vices fluded my tired neurons. Upon arrival, I met freaks from EvergreenBad ObjectionSteeple, crossed with The SnatchersSigil Grove and Gitni of course. And as I left the venue at the end of the night, I felt I transcended and so was everyone just rocks off.

Here's how things went down.

I was a street across the venue and I percieved the guys from Gitni hanging out. I shake hands and as we discuss. the guys take turns fiddling around with my skateboard reminding me of times younger as we all took turns trying tricks in our friends driveway. After a split towards various directions, I follow towards the Barfly where the show'll happen and upon arrival Chad, ex-Bad Objection bassist newly enrolled as singer and bassist for Sigil Grove, greets me and X's my arm and out I am sniffing around for corny motherfuckers. Ricardo, singer and guitarist from Bad Objection, smiles as we greet and lung out in a phony brit accent, '' Hey ya bloody wanker!'' As I turn my head around Hans, the next Dave Alexander in town currently playing for Evergreen, is chatting with other hipsters  who came to spike pleasure along the groove that would be sprayed along Barfly's walls. Soon enough all of Evergreen has made their way to the show and I discern the boys from Truck Violence creeping up, Marky who loaths around Blackmagic's management also joins and guys from Insade with Jacque, infamous FNQ singer, have all come to preach. After a couple of cigarettes, the common onlookers who advise me not too smoke too much for my health, the battle cry is heard, The Snatchers have embarked on stage!

Inside, a wall of agitated teen is formed at the banks of the stage. My old ears cry in agony and to help out I feed em' earplugs to rest on. Now all's set and the band tears through the room starting with Sniff. People are snatched off their phones and as the setlist is emptied, the bar fills up and while a couple snobs are pooling in the back of the room, more lads are swinging their heads and body on the edge of the small modestly raised scene. The singer and the bassist take turns singing, screaming, or should I say shoving choruses, and verses upon a crowd shouting for more. Their aggressivity and ways of simply gesticulating and wrestling with their equipment and mics on stage just to entertain us will always impress me! In the meantime, their drummer Sam is hurling sticks as loudly as possible while keeping time in check. Although to my ears their songs remain pretty anonymous since they don't have any songs released, what captivates me with them is of course their makeup that adds a spooky haze to their incredible energetic performances. The set is now over, I am kazooted and feeling weary, all chant and the bar is slowly washed away from it's crowd as we head outside.

After a quick break spent under a light rain breeze I dash to the nearest corner store, buy a beer to set in

motion my tired corpse for the rest of the night and after gulping it down, I hurry back inside just in time for Gitni to bring down the house. Ceilings, Insomnia the two first songs projected to us to begin their performance, and I can't help but hear a ressemblance with Joy Division mixed in with some more angry paced performance and tones. It's a blend of studdering lyrics with Smashing Pumpkins heavy noized riffs and sound effects alluding to songs such as Zero. As the set rolls, the singing becomes heavier, we are brought into heavier metal landscapes. Songs like White Status reminded me of Machine Head's Davidian mixed with some Meshuggah's vocal to an extent. Lastly their song Pool Of Clay reminded me greatly of soundscapes crafted by the likes of Radiohead. Once again, I greatly encourage fans and adorers of the band to go listen to Blackhole Studio Demos which features Massimo, who's part of Death By Knife and Druidess, as a helping hand in recording the music. These demos are a great stain of their talent and can only rile us up for more coming from the band. Their set was the bridge needed between The Snatchers more punk sound towards Sigil Grove's sludgish hardcore grooving set. They made sure to capture our feets and corpse in ther infectious, yet at times soothing and other times raging, melodies.

Next and final act on the bill, the one and only Sigil Grove. Two unfamiliar faces were the center of attention, Cedric the drummer and the guitarist called Gabriel. Cedric's played in OAKS and he's also part of One Trillion Bees with Math from Steeple. Now back to the show, the band starts off with two original, one titled Bellepro at the moment and the second baring the name Tree Lurkers such as those scroungy enemies seen in Diablo two. After this they screeched out a cover of Sunami's vulgar Contempt Of Cops. By then, everyone around me was covered in sweet and beer that flowed through our pores and hands. The rest of the set was a god damn banger where heaviness tangoed with smudged covals all all the while being groovy enough for the auience to mosh and just ride the songs shoving agains't bodies and ceilings in the pit. The more songs where played, the more cunts kept enrolling emselves in the madness and in the pit during the set. After it was over, people came outside very happily surprised! Everyone knew now how good of a show Sigil Grove could put on and as much as it was harder than punk or metal, it remained a sound accessible for all, groovy for all to simply let loose and enjoy the set!

By the end of the night, my time was up. Every note had sipped away all strenght I had. The sheer madness had entwined my neurons and I now desperately needed rest. When the night started, I'd observed many around me seemed tired and phrases such as, '' Man I want to mosh tonight but I desperately need to rest or at least sit down for a while!'' were uttered through the gloomy rain. But luckily the three bands who played busted their asses on stage and it soon crawled in our veins and by the end, everyone was ransaked from the pits and jesterful shoving. This night could only be summed up as a Kentucky Derby happening, were everything was suppose to happen all smooth but as the show went on, the tension, energy and hecticness sprawled through the roof. Old fools and youngs had a thrill for sure and many more nights of madness are demanded from all who played realizing how uplifting their performances could be. For shows to come, The Snatchers are playing June 9th with Motorwolf and Scarletwives at Turbo Haus, Gitni have yet to announce a new show and finally, Sigil Grove are playing with Truck ViolenceCloned Apparition and Mulch at Studio Moreau. Tickets for this event will be limited and therefore come fast for their show in order not to miss this.
