Lady On The Internet, By Booster Fawn
Lady On The Internet - Booster Fawn Single Review
A blend of Billy Joel, and Ali Farka Touré., A touch of modernism with lyrics that couldn’t be more accurate for many introverts, especially coming out of COVID . Where all the girls seemed so pretty and attractive on the Giants of the Internet.
Booster Fawn’s “Lady On The Internet” starts off with this lead guitar tainted of world music scales, reminding me of the oriental folklore string instruments. I remembered my times back when I was just a young drugster tripping on the songs of Ali Farka Touré, especially “Soukora '' coming from the album Talking Tumbutu for those curious to dig in. Once the voice takes the wheel, Joshua's tone and the melody that carries on couldn’t help but remind me of the allures of Billy Joel’s hit “Piano Man,” fetching back my tastes for a last call before the bar closes, looking at the lady from afar, looking real good. Their wink at pop music while still being quite tainted of indie could only mean that they will surely please the youngsters avid of new indie, chill vibe, poppy beats. Alex Gaudio, the drummer on the record, has a jazzy tainted sound which only contributes to the mellow feeling I’ve had listening to the song, while endlessly scrolling watching all the pretty ladies of the internet. To sum it all, the lyrics are the perfect fit for the style. A man who shares his mundane moments with a said lady on the internet. Recalling moments of their childhood, parties and casualties they both appear to have in common. The whole thing rolls towards the end on a Dylanesque vibe kind of acoustic guitar. The man behind the mixing desk, Jeremy Tremblay, can sleep on both his ears knowing every note that guides us in and out a man’s weird internet fantasies are well defined and mellow to the ears. A small stutter came to me as the song finished;no Killeresque keys were laid on the track. and One can’t help but think what could’ve been the result… a Brandon Flower ballad? Nonetheless, this track is a well deserved Indie coloured recipe, nodding at many old taints of classics and yet laid down with surprising modernism and brilliance.
The band members are Joshua Séguin the singer, Elie Madison at the bass, Eric Desjardins playing oriental melodies on the guitar, and Alex Gaudio on the drums in the studio. If you wish to watch them live, you will perhaps see them with Harry Callahan taking the drum mantle. You can catch them on September 14th at the Diving Bell Social Club/Club Social Le Scaphandre, launching their promising album titled Dreams Made of Snowflakes. Now, if you please, I have to go and write to the girl I met on the Internet.
