Meeting the Birds Of Prrrey while they are Still Growing In Place.

Image
Birds Of Prrrey are one of the rare alternative indie rock band that have swept my heart since their emergence in the local scene around 2023. They recently released around July 6th, a EP titled Yet, We're Still Growing In Place . A title that is quite contradictory to what the group has been experiencing on the street levels. This years, they played Pouzza, they will soon, on the 26th of July, play Birdball which will be happening at La Sottorena serving as their EP release party. Why the fuck to they celebrate so late when their listenings has gone up and everybody has posted their story about being in heaven while listening to the new release weeks ago? Well simply because nothing is a hurry, it'll all come along in due time. The band has no interest in stressing things out, they go on gradually, giving blood were needed without ever straining themselves to a point of disdain of the once hobbyesque music making activity now becomed a more serious concern. They passed on CK...

Mindfuzz more like Mind games

Image
Mindfuzz , a project that started out from a melting pots of projects seeing the daylight around October 2022, was a band heavily influenced by the 80's and 90's heavier rock and grunge, alternative tendencies! Listening to their songs Butane, Request and Phlegm, there was a will to bring back groovy laced rock spirited music on the scene. Shows were deemed quite the action packed sets and always a thrill to be part of. While their story might have been troublesome, their music was great, their contribution to the local music scene was by no means gibberish. By the end of the group's lifespan, rumours had it tensions had infested the nest, a leader more like a knicker who'd knick all the control and other stories haunted the bands attic, things escalated quickly leading to accusations and public statements surrounding them, the police had it's nose snuffed in, and soon they were no more. The greatest bands either adapt and become mainstream, or die fast after pavi...

Blackmagic, a trip that'll waltz you off your feets.

Image
Two weeks ago, on a Saturday, Rancid Fairy , Booster Fawn , One Trillion Bees , Facades ,  Clifford The Duke and  Blackmagic played at la Sottorena. The next day,  Poolgirl played at Traxide with bands such as Birds Of Prrrey , Freshwax , and Heavenly Blue . Tonight, July 12th, Blackmagic, and Poolgirl will be playing with Steeple and other bands to support a great feminist fronted organizations. Now if you are still not convinced about seeing Poolgirl or be Blackmagic, here's my first impression on Poolgirl's live set and my night Saturday spent at the afterparty of the would have been The Patriarchy Show that was supposed to be hosted by Les Insoumises . The Patriarchy Show wasn't forgotten or anything it was simply cancelled due to outside performances and the bad weather not colliding well one another.  First of all, here's my impressions of Poolgirl, a band I'd heard of by name, but never had I peeked into their activities. Here's how it went.  Sun...

Druides and occult riffs laced with death

Image
Fresh Wax , Dying Of Thirst , Death By Knife and Druidess all contributed in the madness that happened on June 21rst near Van Horne Skatepark. The whole thing was set up to support Druidess' release titled The Product Of My Love. An album I'll dig deeper into along the article! They played sets, each raising the bar for the next, picking at each other seeing if the next one in line could top the act. Yet it was no Hendrix setting guitars on fire at Monterey, no Who smashing guitars on stage blowing drum kits or any Slayer show with a fire burning in the middle of the crowd. But I must say, we got close to it, having a guy blowing heeps out of a I don't know what kind of looking bong. Look at the picture on the left and you'll understand. The show was a sight to see, Bourdain would call it kitchen fueling material if he'd been there. I came to see Death By Knife and Druidess, and as I arrived, Death By Knife were starting to play. Now I must say, their songs were...

The Soreheads, far from being a sore experience.

Image
A lot of cunts don't know when to shut the fuck up and some others should open theirs more. Well Manella, who's a solo artist and a loud one rocking in Thee Soreheads , is one who should go on dialoguing her thoughts for hours. The songs performed with Thee Soreheads reflect and partake in today's new ways of feminism, liberty aspects and total freedom of expression. Songs range about not being anyone's sex doll to hating her alarm clock waking her up and just simply having attitude. The band is one to grind it's teeths on todays issues and concerns of the youth. Thee Soreheads played a set June 1st at Traxide , supporting Chire and Scarlet Wives and well... It was incredible! I spent the evening with singer of Gitni and we saw last minute there was a show at Traxide and so we sped our way to his place to smoke up a bit of tobacco coiled in a bong and afterwards, we dashed out in the night, fearless and thralled for the set at Traxide, Montreal punkiest undergro...

May 25 at Barlfy, The Snatchers, Gitni and Sigil Grove

Image
I'd dragged my feets up to Lachine district under the red hot sun listening to high class proper muppet jazz and gizzmo sucked out of mans to be, all billed under a festival call La Dame Festive. Friends and I filled our ears and tummies along the canal with delicacies overpriced and spent the end of the afternoon playing haki-sac. By the time six o'clock came by, I was in a metro falling asleep as the lights and sounds sped around me in all directions, the destination was a show at Barfly publicized by vicious kids who've got nothing more to do than grind their feets and teeths on cheap knicks and good music. The bands featured on this bill were the Snatchers, Gitni and the one and only Sigil Grove. Upon arrival after fighting through endless dreams during my metro rides, I skated to the venue and felt a surge of energy as wind and the citie's vices fluded my tired neurons. Upon arrival, I met freaks from  Evergreen ,  Bad Objection ,  Steeple , crossed with The Sn...

May 4th, Free Show, Truck Violence's incredible single release party

Image
*Through the echoes, circling me, pitch black around, my breath intensifies, voices keep screeching, I can't understand surely what is said but I can distinguish Bad Objection, 4th Of May and a mention of a free show.* I wake up as an eerie scream swims out of my throat. Oh geez, I'm back in Montreal. It's been two weeks I'd been on a boat, away from all lunatics and the vices emancipating from the city's conducts. I get up, and I'm immediatly tipped off. My body's moving from side to side, all around me, the ground, the walls, the flowers, nothing moves. Every object seems to accept their state, where as on a boat, the sea caresses you and keeps reminding the boat's crew that nowhere is safe, no anchor may allow to settle for good, and every furniture as and inch away from being seasick. I open up my cellphone and upon arriving on Instagram I stumble upon a show, May 4th, besides Van Horne Skatepark, Free, All Ages! Conflit Majeur , Bad Objection , an...
