23/03/2024 Word Of Blue, Gitni, and Bad Objection

March 23rd, there's a show at Barfly on St-Laurent at the height of the Schwartz Deli a popular franchise that attracts tourists and meat lovers every day. On that famous night, Bad Objection fronted by Ricardo Ranaldi, was long awaited because every other member had left the band and so everyone was left wondering who would be filling in the shoes of such a trailblazing legacy. On that night, bands such as World Of Blue and Gitni were also to scheduled to be playing, two bands I'd personally never seen.

Now it's quite particular since I came to the venue to also celebrate my birthday that was the next day on the 24th so I kind of arrived late and missed World of Blue and almost missed Gitni. But I did get to catch Gitni for their last two songs and what I caught was four boys who enslaved the crowd to their catchy grooves and by the time I came in, everyone wanted more from the band. They'd entwined every mind to their very will and now every one was doing what the singer was asking at will. This band truly is fun to watch and they are not afraid to be jesters for the crowd all the while keeping their numbers tight and incredibly fast pace. I would definitely recommend them live and although I wasn't able to see their whole set live, the glimpse I had was incredible and has given me the hunger for more.

Then came Bad Objection, after a couple of cigarettes and drinks and dumbasseries with my friends, I was back inside and ready to hear out the anthem punks back onstage. I brought my friends up with me ready to mosh the hell out in the confines of Barfly where every millimeter is occupied as soon as we come in the place. As I was getting ready, they started out with one of their albums number and a mass moved my back and suddenly everyone moved out of synchronicity ramming each other with a fierce spirit. Butted in, I desperately wanted to catch my breath after every song issued from 3 Strikes You're Out. Frankly after three songs, I'd hope I could be outed from the pit as I was washed up and tired. But the madness kept creeping in and we danced and everyone in the pit felt they were sharing a great revival moment of a band we tought was out for good. On drums, we have the great Palo who greatly adds vibrance and style to the bands rythm and looks. On bass we have Jacob, a youngster who's not afraid of raffling everyone's attention while singing every chorus and just thumping those basslines that make up the trio's great songs. Ric the singer has done a fucking great job at recruiting guys who could honor Bad Objection's small yet asserted legacy that they'd established over their previous shows and their superb album 3 Strikes You're Out. If you haven't listened to their albums, I beg you to do so. At a point in the night, the band takes time to chant me Happy Birthday which was greatly appreciated and wildly unexpected but to this day, it has greatly warmed my heart as I think of all the crowd chanting in unison. The next thing to surprise me as the night rolled on was Zack the drummer of Blackmagic embarking on guitar duties to allow for Ric to sing and bond a bit more with the crowd of starving punks, it was fucking cool to see this talented guy help out the homies and simply taking the action one step higher. As they rolled off, If I'm not wrong they played us a new song that I have to admit, I'm stocked to hear on streaming platforms.

To finish this little review, I wanted to say, I'm sorry the article remains vague a bit more than usual, but after all on the night of the 23rd, I was out to celebrate and I simply wanted to acknowledge mostly what a great night I had with these bands that came to play for us at Barfly. For the shows to come, Gitni have played on March 30th, but haven't announced anything more to come. If you wish to hear music from them, go listen to their Demo's avaible on Soundcloud. World Of Blue are set to play at L'Esco on April the 14th and I surely will be there to see them in action, while Bad Objection have announced a show on April 12th at Collège Lionel-Groulx. Be sure not to miss any of these bands on their next show and once again, thank you to all bands for the incredible night and thanks to all who came.
