Coco Rose ou La Vie en Rose au JazzFest

Coco Rose shone as bright as the sun as they performed at the Havana Club Cabaret.

I saw them on the 30th of June, it was hot, damp but even the clouds were kept away as Coco Rose beemed onstage. The Cabaret, as seen on the picture above, is so small, they're nine onstage, and they filled every bit of the stage with their presence and sheer talent.

Their set featured covers like Squeeze from Maya Delilah, Abide with Me from Thelenious Monk and Broke Down from The California Honeydrops but it also included some older and newer originals like Ambulance, Song of Us and Lovelight to name a few. On the 30th, their main singer couldn't be there so they had someone else fill in. Marianne, the replacement, was simply stunning, not only did she have a range that had me thinking of Amy Winehouse, but she also just owned every song as if she'd always been the main singer of the band. I think this feat is quite impressive knowing many bands have had subs on gigs but most of the time the audience can feel mix reviews of the perfomances in general. The band which featured trumpet, sax, guitar, bass keys and drums delivered every note with intensity and a shocking honest truth that almost had me shit my pants. I remember, as I inhaled a wouff of a dirty old smoke, I closed my eyes, and for an instance, I thought I'd reach heaven. The range of songs which they performed was impressive and a great balance between traditional jazz to modern jazz songs keeping the genre as relevant and accessible for spectators of the old days and the new generation.

Coco Rose are on their way or should I say are on the highway to acclaimed success having been featured on IHeartRadio, about to play Festivoix on the 5th of July at Trois Rivière, now playing two gigs at JazzFest and having shows all over the province and even in Ontario. Back in 2025 they released their first album titled Cuddle Funk which I incite you all to go listen to in order to have a sense of who dynamic, talented and promising this band is. Their next gig in Montreal is on the 14th of August at the Soul De La Ville Festival in Montreal. Here are the details of all upcoming gigs their new album Cuddle Funk
