Evergreen, truck violence and eh distraction4eve, Eglise Saint-Edouard 16 August.
I came in it was a tad late, everlasting traffic and wild wonders kept me drifting along my way to the church. Last time I went to a church I was thrown out because I'd graffitied in a bible. Obscene I was called and so was the show I was on my way to see. A release show for Truck Violences album called Violence. With my head shaved my scrambled beard and my tired arms, I could only hope their would be violence to stir me up. I came there with a friend and of course I found others from bad objection, Sigil Grove and more attending the night. You knew it was going to be a nighter because every local band was there to witness astounding performances and maybe learn a thing or two about giving a good show. What I didn't know was how hot and physical this night would end up being.
Distraction4ever were next and the very much needed brake although short in between sets was pleasant and thrilling as I met other friends and foes. Distraction4ever ressemble a lot Shirehead a band commanded by Jon who's friend with distraction4ever. Sadly for me, although their playing was great I felt their music was not matching the other bands and thus I crept out Mid set due to a certain boredom and fatigue. But I encourage you to listen to their songs on Spotify which showcase a brilliant recording and execution.
Lastly, Truck Violence, the most anticipated act of the night. A speech is issued before music is preached, concerning to the duties of art and artist among society and towards their dedication to their art. Unable to interview them, I haven't been able to discern from where was this authentic speech taken from. But their is a video on my Instagram to showcase the magnificence of the opening lines for those who missed it. Their set was of course their album, but luckily for us they showcased a new song and overall, is was bunkers. The sound was loud, gripping and steamy. The guitarist was just amazing padding along the singers lines and the bassist simply rocked out jumping and thumping on his bass. The drummer, who also plays in Ryan Brio's Trio, was just phenomenal! It was as if he transported the band and the crowd through a ritual helped by the singer who's voice and emotion came wrecking upon the hectic crowd. What really nailed it was the singers performance, Carson was truly expressing his vision and sentiments to us as he worked out each number. Calm melodies were then rushed into a stormy passage as he came close to the crowd claiming mercy or shoving his anger and resentment to us through his facial expressions, reminding me of a certain Willem Dafoe in many movies were he can be seen in a emotional state of distress. It reminded me of Mel Gibson's The Passion Of Christ at certain moments because the singer seemed to ooze and express such pain along tragic lines of songs. Overall their songs were great and what really caught me was the poet and actor Carson tried to be onstage. He not only sang but lived lives and felt emotions one could only dream of feeling in his life. All this while the band was steaming the wagon along the rails. The singer spun his take of what Jim Morrison wanted music to be, a rehearsal where one can lose himself in the music and live it all at once. A tiny interlude was seen mid set due to strings breaking I believe but honestly it wasn't the end of the world at all it only gave every bare chest person in the pit a time to breath and relax a bit.
Overall the night was fantastic and I must say I am deeply stocked to see these bands later on and especially distraction4ever because their material is awesome and I see their promotions on social media and I love their videos and creativity, I simply believe a different lineup would help them shine brighter.
