Face Lock, locked up or simply a facette?

Face Lock, a wink to Nirvana yet far away from the Nirvana

Face Lock, the new Single from Joyless Bodies.

The Band itself.

A moment of grief for Kurt, a feeling of deja-vu was clearly laid down here. I had my Nirvana magazine opened right at the edge of the table as I started the song. The magazine was opened on a intereview with Courtney as she was talking about a song Kurt recorded for her not long before dying and she was explaining how painful it was for her as she'd listen back to it, even to this day (dating back from 2015, I believe.)

Well Face Lock has this same effect for a drunken lad, die-hard grunge rock fan reminiscing the songs of Alice in Chains, Nirvana and many more bands of this era. Yet, I can't say I was blown over. We are far away from the quoted, 'Rage Agains't The Machine influence or nod to System Of A Down'. Quite frankly, it smelled déjà-vu. The verses are mumbled almost inaudible as if the singer was ashamed or afraid of his lyrics, the chorus is quite modern with a vocal stretch but yet not redefining the performance and a bridge that shifts a bit the tendency of not hearing well the lyrics. Quite frankly, it's a tired band to my ears.

Yet I do wish they come back firmly on conquered ground and stand proudly. Their discography has great moments, such as Enclosed, Shelf and Crawl Away. But yet, as the singles were drawn out of the drawer and sent out in the open air, it seemed the band lost their direction, not knowing if they should stand their ground, claim a new approach or simply just latch out and go all out live. Now that's also another aspect, their lives were great, the energy was present, but it seems they are fairly discret about any upcoming performance which was my highlight of the band.

So for any future release, I believe they, Simon on bass, Samy on drums and William on guitar and vocals, should publicly raise awareness more than doing surprise releases, since we all have a busy life and if a post is all we have of proof, then many might miss it. And secondly, I beg of them to go back live, capitalize upon their incredible live performances energizing even the most tired trucker or fan. Until then, do take the time to listen to their discography, they've had great ideas at times and still echoe a stem of hope to come back energized and replenished with creativity soon enough.
